Robert J. Bob Mitchelson Obituary (1929 - 2014)

Robert J. "Bob" Mitchelson, 84, of Taylorville, IL, died at 9:06 am Monday, September 29, 2014 at his residence. He was born November 24, 1929 in Taylorville, the son of James W. and Mandy Faye Peters Mitchelson. On March 28, 1954 he married Bonnie M. Griffin in Drexel, NC. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church in Taylorville, an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Post 73, Taylorville. He retired from Peabody Mine #10 in 1992 after 43 years of service. Bob was a member of U.M.W.A. Local 9819 and was an avid fisherman that loved all sports including bowling. Surviving are his wife: Bonnie Mitchelson of Taylorville; Daughter: Terri Wilson and husband Willie of Taylorville; Son: Robert W. Mitchelson and wife Lisa of Dunnellon, FL; Grandchildren: Mandy Dempsey of Chicago, Adam Dempsey and wife Monica of Taylorville, and Logan Mitchelson of Dunnellon, FL; Step-Grandchildren: Nick Burkey and Alex Burkey of Gainesville, FL and Darlene Weigle of Renton, WA; Great Grandchild: Kinley Dempsey of Taylorville; Sister: Donna Brown of Diamond Head, MS; Step-Sister: Marlene Morris of Springfield and Sister-in-Law: Bonnie J. Mitchelson of Taylorville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Step-Mother: Ruth Mitchelson Morris; Daughter: Lynette Susan Mitchelson; Sisters: Berry Ferguson, Dorothy Beers, Patty Taylor, and Brother: James H. Mitchelson. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, October 3 at McClure Funeral home, Taylorville with Pastor Steve Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 303 E. Market, Taylorville, IL 62568.
