Philip L. Hopkins Obituary (1947 - 2012)

Philip L. Hopkins, 64, of Edinburg, IL died at 12:14 am Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in the emergency room at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born June 14, 1947 in Springfield the son of Marvin and Cora M. Rhodes Hopkins. On February 14, 1970 he married Nancy L. Ballard in Ramsey, IL. Mr. Hopkins was retired from Don Smith Paint Company where he was a warehouse manager. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Vandalia, a veteran of the 183th Air National Guard. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Riverton Fire Dept., a Corvette enthusiast, and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving are his wife Nancy L. Hopkins of Edinburg, Son: Jason Hopkins and wife Aubrey of Taylorville, and a daughter: Sara Murphy and husband Robert of Petersburg. Grandchildren: Jayden Hopkins, Lydia Hopkins, and Coralynn Murphy. Brother: Larry Hopkins and wife Roxann of Springfield, and a sister: Carol Yuenger of O'Fallon, MO. Several Nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Charles Clay Hopkins. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Thursday, March 1 at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville. Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 pm with Rev. Steve Switzer officiating. Memorials may be made to: American Heart Association or St. John's Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
