Merrill Frederick Dr. Frevert Obituary (1909 - 2006)

Dr. Merrill Frederick Frevert, 96, of Taylorville, IL, formerly of West Union, Iowa died at 4:25 pm Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville, IL. He was born July 26, 1909 in Rudd, Iowa, the son of William and Mary Kessler Frevert. On July 26, 1933 he married Eunice Irene Finch in Rudd, Iowa and she preceded in death on February 21, 2004. Dr. Frevert was a 1933 graduate of Iowa State University where he earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation he practiced in West Union, Iowa until he retired in 1975 and moved to Taylorville in February 2005. He wrestled for Iowa State University and in 1933 won the 155 lb. N.C.A.A. Wrestling Championship in Bethlehem, PA. He was inducted into the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1986. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in West Union, and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in West Union, Iowa. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed many family gatherings at the Frevert summer cabin on the Mississippi River at Marquette, Iowa. Surviving are his son, Tom Frevert and wife Kay of Taylorville and a daughter, Elaine Wick and husband Leander of Alexandria, VA. 9 Grandchildren: Marla Smith of Albuquerque, NM, Leeann Carl and husband Roger of Albuquerque, NM, Jon Champion and wife Dawn of Waterloo, IA, David Champion and wife Carrie of Tallahassee, FL, Linda Pardo Hathaway and husband Mike of Davie, FL, Jenny Moats and husband Jim of Taylorville, IL, Trish Groeninger and husband Rick of Auburn, IL, Andy Frevert of Frederick, CO and Andy Wick and wife Christina of McLean, VA. There are 20 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 daughters, Jane Van Roekel and Nancy Champion Seppala, and 4 brothers. A service of remembrance will be held at 5:00 pm Sunday, February 26, 2006 at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville, IL. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. There will also be a visitation at the Burnham & Wood Funeral Home in West Union, IA on Friday, March 3 followed by funeral services and burial on Saturday.
