Lowell L. Beck Obituary (1936 - 2011)

Lowell L. Beck, 75, of Stonington, IL died at 6:05 pm Sunday, March 20, 2011 at his residence. He was born February 9, 1936 in Taylorville, IL the son of Marion W. and Geraldine M. Traughber Beck. On November 16, 1963 he married Phyllis Arlene Wells at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church. Mr. Beck had farmed for 48 years in the Stonington area. He attended the First Baptist Church in Stonington. Lowell was a charter member of the Stonington Lions Club, 50 year member of the Stonington Lodge 1066 A.F. & A.M. He graduated from the University of Illinois and was a member of the 84th Army Band based in Fulda, Germany. He taught Science and Chemistry at Mt. Auburn High School, and had served for 20 years as Secretary on the Board of Directors of Stonington Co-op. Surviving are his wife: Phyllis Beck of Stonington, Son: Bryan Beck and wife Renee of Ft. Mill, SC, and daughter: Kerry Beck of Waukesha, WI. Grandchildren: Camille Beck, Apryl Beck, Kinsey Ernst, Emma Ernst, and Nathan Ernst. Brother: William Beck of Edinburg, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Phillip Beck. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, March 25 at First Baptist Church in Stonington with Rev. William Mitchell and Rev. Billy Bob Howard officiating. Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Thursday at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville.
