Lawrence Larry Meadows Obituary (1930 - 2011)

Lawrence "Larry" Meadows, 80, of Taylorville, IL died at 9:30 am Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born December 2, 1930 in Jellico, Tennessee, the son of William M. and Virgie Huddleston Meadows. On September 2, 1955 he married Diane Martin at the Methodist Church in Virden, Illinois. Mr. Meadows was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and he also served in Italy and Germany. He retired from First Trust Bank in Taylorville as the Executive Vice President after serving the bank from 1965-1990. He graduated at the age of 16 from Kincaid High School and attended the University of Illinois as well as numerous banking schools. Larry was very civic minded and was president of the Chamber of Commerce in 1989-1990. He was a member of the Association of Commerce and Industry, Taylorville Industrial Development Association and was a trustee of May Township. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 4495, American Legion Post 73 and the Masonic Lodge of Rantoul, IL. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Taylorville. Surviving are his wife, Diane Meadows of Taylorville, Grandchildren: Ashley Althoff and Drew Althoff of Taylorville, Son-in-law: Tony Althoff of Taylorville, 2 brothers: Carl Meadows and wife Carol of Las Vegas, NV, and William Meadows and wife Marie of Auburn, Sister: Carol Bourlard and husband Eugene of Vonore, TN, and Sister-in-law: Camille Pearson of Washington, IL. There are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Pam Meadows and Kim Althoff. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 14, 2011 at McClure Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Spurgin officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
