Joseph W. Brooks, Jr, 88, of Taylorville, IL died at 4:45 am Monday, September 16, 2002 in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL. He was born December 31, 1913 in Taylorville, IL the son of Joseph and Adah Hill Brooks, Sr. On April 20, 1939 he married Maxine Achenbach in Taylorville, IL and she preceded in death on March 10, 1977. He then married Christine Daykin Spurling on February 15, 1986 in Taylorville. Mr. Brooks had sold Chevrolets, Buicks and Cadilacs for 43 years for Gilbert Large and George Miller of Taylorville. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville, Knights of Columbus Council 2120, Taylorville; 4th degree Knights of Columbus, Springfield, IL; Former Alederman for Ward #4, Taylorville, IL and was a Democrat Precinct Committeeman for many years. Surviving are his wife,Chris of Taylorville, IL; 2 daughters, Susan Pearce and husband Jack and Becky Mazzotti and husband Johnn all of Taylorville, IL. 4 Grandchildren: Jodi Pearce, Jack Pearce, Jr. and wife Jill, Michelle Smith and husband Marty, Lori Ann Hart and husband David all of Taylorville. 2 Step-sons: Don Spurling and wife Nancy of Longwood, FL and Gary Spurling and wife Brenda of Taylorville. 7 Step-grandchildren: Rob Spurling, Sam Spurling, Tammy Spurling and husband Chris Dempsey and Paula Wykoff and husband Mark all of Taylorville, Donna Smith of Oakland, CA, Sarah Spurling of Altamont Springs, FL and Rachel Spurling of Longwood, FL. There are 9 Great Grandchildrena and numerous Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and 7 brothers and sisters. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, Spetember 18, 2002 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Taylorville, IL with Fr. Alan Hunter Officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, September 17, 2002 in McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School or St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville, IL.
