Cornelius L. Connie DiPlotti Obituary (1911 - 2004)

Cornelius L. "Connie" DiPlotti, 92, of Taylorville, IL died Saturday, May 1, 2004 in Divine Savior Hospital, Portage, WI. He was born September 23, 1911 in Udine, Italy, the son of John and Theresa DaGusto DiPlotti. On February 21, 1939 he married Amelia "Millie" Banko in Taylorville and she preceded in death on August 16, 2000. Connie's family left Italy in 1919 and settled in Virden, IL and he moved to Taylorville in 1933 when he and his brother, Del, started DiPlotti's Shoe Store. Mr. DiPlotti served in World War II from 1943 until 1944 and was Taylorville Postmaster from 1962 until 1987. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville, Knights of Columbus Council 2120, Taylorville; 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Springfield, IL; 50 year member of American Legion Post 73, Taylorville; Vice President of Illinois Postmasters Association; Past board president of the former Taylorville First Federal Savings and Loan; former member of Oak Hill Cemetery Board, and a member of St. Vincent Memorial Hospital Lay Advisory Board. He is survived by his son, Robert DiPlotti and wife Madeline of Poynette, WI, daughter, Barbara DiPlotti of Taylorville; 4 Grandchildren: Robert R. DiPlotti and wife Michele; Tressa Decker; John DiPlotti and Susan Gannon and husband Scott. There are 10 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, Louis DiPlotti and Del DiPlotti. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am Friday, May 7, 2004 in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Martin O'Hara officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday, May 6 in McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville, IL.
