Arthur B. Holthaus Obituary (1920 - 2010)

Arthur B. Holthaus, 90, of Stonington, IL died at 7:30 pm Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Taylorville Care Center. He was born July 29, 1920 in Oconee, IL the fourth of 10 children of Herman F. and Agnes Pohlman Holthaus. He graduated from Pana High School and service in the US Army before his marriage to Mary Margaret Beyers on June 6, 1946 in Pana. He and Mary Margaret lived most of their married life in Stonington where he farmed until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and served as a Trustee for many years. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2120. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Mary Margaret Holthaus; 6 children: Donald Holthaus and wife Carol of Decatur, IL, David Holthaus and wife Brenda of Prairieville, LA, Marcia Holthaus OP of DeForrest, WI, Carol White and husband Bill of Blue Mound, Geralyn Owen and husband Bob of West Liberty, IA, and Robert Holthaus and wife Jill of Stonington. 11 Grandchildren: Chris Holthaus, Amy Holthaus-Little, Steve Holthaus, Jeff Arceneaux and Toby Arceneaux, Clint Shewmaker, Michael Owen, Matthew Owen, Morgan Holthaus, Emily Holthaus, and Maggie Holthaus. There are 12 Great grandchildren. Brothers: Bernard Holthaus and wife Ruth of Baldwin, MO, Joseph A. Holthaus of Pana, Carl Holthaus and wife Lucille of Shelbyville and his sister: Teresa Beck of Oconee, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers: Paul Holthaus, Francis Holthaus, Raymond Holthaus and sisters: Dorothy Lohr and Adele Price. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Sunday at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville. There will be a prayer service at 1:45 PM.
